  • Jaw Width: 6″
  • Throat Depth: 4.2″

With its 60,000PSI, you’ll be able to clamp any material with up to 6600 pounds of clamping force. You’re going to want the material you’re working with to stay still, otherwise, you’re at potential risk of an accident. You won’t have any issue as this bench vise has more than double the PSI of cheaper options.

You’ll also love the 360-degree swivel base and head that can be locked at 12 different points. It may not seem like a big deal now, but you never know what position you’re going to need to be in. This vise moves with you.

It’s made out of ductile iron, so you won’t have to worry about dinging up a poorly made bench vise. You can utilize the anvil surface on top to pound away at your heart’s desire. You can even give it a few bangs when you can’t find your screwdriver anywhere!

No matter the reason why you need a bench vise, this is the one that will take care of any need you may have. Enjoy the included 10-year warranty and never having to purchase another vise again.

Pros
  • 10 Year Warranty
  • 360 Degree Rotation
Cons
  • Cheaper vises don’t come with the best rotating handles

Best Bench Vise for the Money

Yost 5″

  • Jaw Opening: 4-7/8″
  • Jaw Width: 5″
  • Throat Depth: 3″

You won’t need anything better than this bench vise if you’re a weekend warrior. Anything more than this vise and it’s going to head into overkill territory.

Even though it’s a budget buy, you’ll be able to still utilize 7,000 pounds of clamp force. That’s more than enough for getting any woodworking or light metalwork that you may have.

You’ll also still be able to benefit from the 360-degree rotating head. If you’re new to using a vise, you’re going to want to make sure that you aren’t limited to certain angles. You will want your vise to be flexible so you don’t get stuck in an odd position while you’re working on a corner of your work bench.

This bench vise also comes with 3 different sets of jaws, machinist, pipe, and v-jaws. You’re going to have the flexibility of clamping down on different sized materials with ease. The cheapest vises out there limit you, but even at this price, you’ll be loaded with options.

You won’t be able to find a better bench vise for the money. Yost has been crafting tools for more than 100 years, they know vises. The only downside is that this vise doesn’t come with a warranty, but with light use, this vise will pay for itself.

Pros
  • Best vise for the money
  • Loaded with features
Cons
  • No warranty, not a deal breaker though!

Best Bench Vise Under $100

Wilton 11104 4”

  • Jaw Opening: 3″
  • Jaw Width: 4″
  • Throat Depth: 2-1/4″

This vise does one thing well: it holds stuff. You aren’t buying any fancy features, but you are getting a solid product especially for the price. This vise is perfect for beginners.

This vise was crafted from 30,000 PSI ductile iron. Instead of cast iron that other cheap vises are made out of, you’ll get to enjoy the toughness of ductile iron. You’ll still be able to bang away at the large anvil surface without worrying about damaging the vise itself.

The base still swivels 360 degrees, which is amazing considering that this is the cheapest vise on this list. You won’t have to worry about getting in stuck in awkward angles while working.

One downside of this vise is that while is a great bargain, you’re missing out on jaws that can hold circular materials. You’ll have a hard time clamping down on anything tubed shaped, but it’s still going to hold anything straight without an issue.

If you’re a new hobbyist woodworker or metalworker, you can’t go wrong with this vise. To top it all off, Wilton offers a lifetime warranty should anything go wrong.

Pros
  • Perfect for beginners
  • Made out of ductile iron
  • Lifetime Warranty
Cons
  • Some people had issues with parts breaking, but it does come with a lifetime warranty should anything go wrong

Best Woodworking Bench Vise

Yost M7WW Rapid Acting

  • Jaw Opening: 8″
  • Jaw Width: 7″
  • Throat Depth: 3″

As you progress from a novice to intermediate woodworker, your tools will need to evolve with you. This vise is perfect for anyone who needs the features that only a woodworking vise can bring to the table.

Right off the bat, you’ll be impressed with the quick release level. Unlike other stationary vises, you’ll be able to open and close the vise extremely fast allowing for quick adjustments. For this price, you won’t find a woodworking vise that can compete.

You’re going to need a jaw opening that can fit the wood that you’re working with. This vise comes with a jaw opening of 8″ giving you plenty of options with the size of your wood.

You won’t have to worry about overstressing this vise either, the fused tommy bar will bend before it puts you in harm’s way.

A few purchasers mentioned that the jaw wasn’t perfectly parallel to the table, but that didn’t affect the performance.

For a flush mount, it is required that the table you attach this to be 2. 37″ thick. Overall, this is the best woodworking bench vise at this price point, period. You can try to find a better one, but the quick release level is what separates this vise from the rest.

Pros
  • Big jaw size perfect for any size wood
  • Quick release level allowing for quick opening/closing
Cons
  • Some purchasers mentioned the quick release was a bit stiff, but still performed great

Best Multipurpose Bench Vise

Olympia Tools Multipurpose Vise

  • Jaw Opening: 6 3/4″
  • Jaw Width: 5″
  • Throat Depth: 7″

This multipurpose bench vise gives you the freedom to work on construction, woodworking, mechanical, or home repair jobs without needing multiple vises.

The 5-inch jaw width allows you to clamp down on a variety of different objects. You’ll also love the built-in pipe jaws letting you clamp down around circular material without a problem.

The jaw AND base rotate 360 degrees which is important when you’re dealing with jobs that require different positions. You’ll be able to get comfortable at any angle you need to with the flexibility this vise provides.

One issue this vise has is that the woodworking and pivoting expansion tools cost extra. Depending on what you do, it may not be a deal-breaker.

Buying multiple vises for different projects can be pricy, but with this vise, you won’t have to waste time and energy juggling different products.

Pros
  • Great for multiple use cases
  • 360 rotation jaw and base
Cons
  • Doesn’t come with woodworking/pivoting attachments

Best Heavy Duty Bench Vise

Forward DT08125A 5-Inch

  • Jaw Opening: 5″
  • Jaw Width: 5″
  • Throat Depth: 2.6″

Heavy-duty doesn’t mean you need to break the bank. This quality bench vise is going to conquer any need you’ll have at home.

It’s made out of 60,000 PSI ductile iron which is going to be necessary when you start tapping on the anvil surface with force. The 5500lbs of clamp force ensures that the material you’re working with stays in place.

This bench vise rotates 360 degrees giving you plenty of room to decide what angle to work at. The front jaw can also be rotated 360 degrees, which will let you get into angles where you can get leverage. Perfect for bending tougher materials.

What I love about this heavy-duty vise is that it has different jaw sizes allowing you to clamp down on tubes or oddly shaped wood. You’ll be able to keep any size object in place as long as it fits within the microgroove-toothed jaws.

This vise doesn’t come with a warranty which can be a deal-breaker. Owners of this vise were incredibly happy with their purchase regardless. I think that if you’re not doing specialized work like machining or automotive, this bench vise will solve any problems you have.

Pros
  • Great for any at home job
  • Front jaw rotates 360 degrees
Cons
  • No warranty

Best Small Bench Vise

Yost LV-4 Home Vise

  • Jaw Opening: 3″
  • Jaw Width: 4.5 inch
  • Throat Depth: 2.4″

This small bench vise is perfect for any light home improvement work.

It’s crafted out of 30,000 PSI cast iron and has a 240-degree swivel rotation Considering it’s smaller than most vises at 4.5 inches, it’s still got the features that you would expect out of more expensive bench vises.

You aren’t paying for features you don’t need, this vise is going to hold small items without issues. It also is crafted by Yost, who’s been creating bench vises for over 100 years.

A few gripes that I have about this vise is how the handle is a bit short, making it difficult to get a tight clamp without enough leverage. Some users also mentioned that their vises broke easily, but I suspect that’s more due to them using this vise above its limitations.

I think that as long as you don’t need to do metal or machinery work, you’ll save a ton of money with this vise. It doesn’t come with a warranty, but as far as vises go, this is one of the cheapest ones out there. For such a bargain, it still has plenty to offer.

Pros
  • Small
  • Bargain price
Cons
  • Made out of cast iron which isn’t as strong as ductile, but for the price you won’t be able to find better

Best American Made Bench Vise

Wilton 300S Machinist Vise

  • Jaw Opening: 4-3/4″
  • Jaw Width: 3″
  • Throat Depth: 2-5/8″

It’s understandable if you’re looking for a bench vise that isn’t mass-produced without a thought in China. This bench vise is made right in the heart of the USA and it’s going to be a “heritage” tool that you’ll hand down for generations to come.

You’ll notice that this bench vise is BIG. It’s made out of virtually indestructible cast iron and weighs 30% more than competing bench vises. Cast iron will last forever as long as you take care of it, and you won’t have any issues banging away at the anvil surface on top.

The base swivels around 360 degrees as you would expect. What’s unique about this bench vise is that the precision-machined slide bar eliminates movement of the front jaw. You won’t have to worry about any wiggling when working with sensitive material that has to stay in place.

You won’t have to worry about parts breaking either as Wilton has been in business since 1941. The jaw inserts are replaceable so you won’t have a hard time finding replacements if you need in the future.

Unlike cheaper models, the handle is long enough so you can get the leverage you need to clamp down on any material you’re working with. This bench vise is no joke, and you’ll be able to hold on to anything you have in your garage or workshop.

This bench vise is not for your average joe, don’t buy this unless you’re working day in and day out with cars, metal, or machinery. It may seem expensive, but consider the fact that this bench vise will survive generations if taken care of properly. You won’t be buying another vise in your life.

Pros
  • Will last forever
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Made in the USA
Cons
  • Pricy

Best Automotive Shop Bench Vise

Wilton 865M Mechanics Pro Vise

  • Jaw Opening: 6″
  • Jaw Width: 6.5″
  • Throat Depth: 4-3/8″

When you’re working in the automotive industry, you know that cheap tools have a cost. If your tools break on the job, you not only lose your money but also the precious time you could have spent working towards deadlines.

This mechanics bench vise is going to last. It’s made out of 60,000 PSI ductile iron, which is even stronger than your typical cast iron. You can flatten out metal on the anvil surface without worry about breaking your vise, it’s going to hold up.

You’ll get to enjoy the 360-degree swivel base that you’ve come to expect. What sets this vise apart from others is the precision-machined slide bar which will allow you to hold any material with great strength. You won’t need to worry about any wiggling.

The needle roller thrust bearing also helps you apply and release the clamping force you need. Cheaper models can be tough to clamp down due to leverage issues, but this vise doesn’t have that problem.

It’s not made in the USA, which can be a deal-breaker for some. The benefit is that you’ll save a good chunk of change if you decide to go with this vise. Wilton offers a lifetime warranty for all of their products, and with that in mind, I wouldn’t worry about this bench vise giving out on me.

Best Cheap Woodworking Vise

IRWIN Woodworking Vise

  • Jaw Opening: 4.5″
  • Jaw Width: 6.5″
  • Throat Depth: 2-3/8″

Being a beginner woodworker shouldn’t limit you to what you can accomplish. Picking up a cheap woodworking vise can expand your limits and get you ready for better tools in the future.

The square body seating will make it easy to mount underneath your workbench. The top jaws will also ensure that you get a solid grip on the wood you’re working with. Even though you’re looking for a bargain, it doesn’t mean you need to suffer from a loose vise.

You’ll be able to get any light-duty woodworking done with the 4.5″ jaw capacity. You can carve or saw down a piece of wood to your desired dimensions. You could do it by hand, but a woodworking vise is going to make your job easy as heck.

Take this vise for a test run and see if it’s something you’d enjoy working with in the future. I’ve jumped the gun before and bought high-end items and regretted it. Don’t be like me, get this vise so you can become familiar with woodworking vises. Hard to beat this guy for the price.

Pros
  • Great for new woodworkers
Cons
  • Cheap, not going to last forever

Best 6″ Bench Vise

Wilton 11106

Wilton 11106
  • Jaw Opening: 6″
  • Jaw Width: 6″

Be warned, the pictures don’t do this 6-inch vise justice. It’s HUGE, it’s almost twice the size as regular vises, so be aware of that before purchasing.

It’s made from 30,000 PSI gray cast iron and has not one, but TWO anvils to give you a scope of the size of this vise. You can pound away freely on both surfaces without the worry of breaking your vise.

The grooved steel jaw inserts ensure that you get a tight grip on the object you’re clamping down on. If they break, you’ll be able to replace them with Wilton’s lifetime warranty.

One thing that might be a deal-breaker is that this vise only swivels 120 degrees. If you’re working at home, this shouldn’t matter that much to you. It becomes a problem if you’re using this to perform heavy-duty tasks, but this vise was created for light home use.

With 6 inches of jaw opening and width, this vise is going to hold anything you need. It’s going to last the test of time and you’ll be able to sleep easy at night knowing your vise is protected under warranty. It’s perfect for weekend warriors.

Pros
  • Big ass anvil for pounding
  • Lifetime warranty
Cons
  • 120 degree swivel can be limiting
