That’s why the PetSafe Freedom Aluminum is a great option for your cat. They’ll be able to come and go as they please and it’ll lock itself with the magnetic flap. You can also choose to keep it locked and keep your cat inside.

For anyone on a budget, the Depets Large Cat Door isn’t a bad choice either.

If you want to read the reviews, you’ll find those below.

Let’s get into it.

Best Cat Door for Garage Door

PetSafe Freedom Aluminum

  • Size: 5 1/4″ x 8 1/8″
  • Weight: Designed for cats under 15 pounds
  • Door: Fits interior and exterior doors between 3/8″ and 2″

What I like

You have the option to choose from small, medium, or even extra-large. No matter what size your cat is (no discrimination here for chonkers), they’ll be able to fit through this cat door. You can size it up if you have a dog as well, making it dual function.

What I like about this model is that it has a solid aluminum frame. It’s light enough so that it won’t weigh down your garage door and will blend right in with most garage door models. You’ll want something that will hold up through rain or shine, and this cat door is the right pick.

Your cat will be able to come and go as they please with the tinted flap. It’ll keep out rain, snow, and debris while giving you privacy with the tinted finish. When your cat comes back home, you can keep them inside locking the slide-in closing panel. This’ll keep any rodents from entering your garage as well.

The flap is magnetic to keep the bottom closed whenever it isn’t in use.

If you’re not handy, it comes with a cutting template so you won’t have any issue cutting the area for your cat door.

What I don’t like

Some purchasers mention that some water got in through the door after installation. You can however get around this by applying silicone outside the outside of the housing.

You’ll want your cat door to be sturdy and last the test of time, especially if it will be installed on your garage door. The aluminum frame on this cat door should give you exactly that. You can choose from the size you need all the way up to extra large.

  • Tinted and magnetic flap
  • Lockable from the inside
  • Aluminum frame
  • Some water may come through the outside

  • Size: 10.75 x 2 x 15.6 inches
  • Weight: Cats or dogs up to 40lbs
  • Door: Suitable for garage doors 1 1/2 in – 2 in thick

If you live in a place that gets extreme weather, this cat door will keep the elements outside where they belong.

What I like

If you have an insulated garage, this will keep your garage insulated. The three flap insulation blocks out cold or hot air so you can keep your garage at the temperature you desire. The magnetic seal will also keep the flap closed whenever it isn’t in use.

If you live in an area that has extreme winters but still want to use your garage, you’ll want a cat door that keeps the cold air out. Purchasers mention that even in Minnesota they were able to keep the cold air outside where it belongs.

I like that it has an aluminum frame as well, ensuring that you’ll be able to rely on this cat door for years to come. The frame has reinforced metal corners making this door reliable as heck. Once your cat has done their business, you can use the slide-in closing panel to keep any intruders out.

Depending on the size of your cat, you can choose the right fit. If you’re buying one for your dog to use as well, you can pick up the larger sizes. A medium or small should be big enough for nearly all cats but double-check the measurements just to make sure.

What I don’t like

This cat door is not cheap.

I think that if you’re willing to spend a bit extra, you’ll be hard-pressed to go wrong with this option. It will keep extreme elements outside and you’ll be able to enjoy a moderate temperature within your garage at all times of the year.

  • Great if you get extreme hot/cold
  • Has aluminum frame
  • Magnetic flap
  • Pricy

Depets Large Cat Door

Need a super simple cat door for your garage door? This is it, and you’ll some cash too!

What I like

I love that this is a no-frills cat door. You won’t need to spend extra on features you won’t ever use, it does one thing and does it well. Let your cat outside!

Even though it’s a budget option, you’ll still be able to lock it should you want to keep your cat inside. It’ll also keep out any mice or other rodents.

You’ll be able to see through the flap as well to see your cat coming and going. The flap will keep out water if you keep it closed should it start raining. If you do find your garage getting wet, you can try out a garage door threshold.

It’s made out of ABS plastic and is weather resistant which is important since it’ll be facing outside. It comes with instructions to install it and 8 screws to hold everything together in place.

What I don’t like

While it is a budget cat door, you will have to consider that it’s going to be made out of plastic. I do suggest getting something aluminum as you likely don’t want to have to install another sized cat door later on down the road.

If you don’t mind that it’s made out of plastic, then this cat door is suitable for you.

  • Has lock
  • Transparent flap
  • Easy installation
  • Made out of plastic

Final Thoughts

No matter your budget, you should be able to find the right cat door for your garage door. Make sure it’s thick enough that you won’t have any installation uses. I do recommend the PetSafe Freedom Aluminum cat door as it’ll hold up even against tough weather.

For anyone who wants a simple option, the Depets Large Cat Door is great too.
