How much clearance to install a garage door opener?

Torsion springs require around 12″ of clearance, extension springs require 10″ for your garage door opener. You’ll also need to account for the opener being installed at least 10 feet away from the front wall.

Can you install a garage door opener with low clearance?

You can install a low headroom kit if you don’t have enough headroom to install your garage door opener. You’ll be able to reduce the headroom required by 4.5 inches.
